We began our day of UCLA football with a pleasant lunch with Ann Forkey (blue UCLA shirt) and her friend Patty. I worked with Ann at P&G. She is a HUGE UCLA sports fan. It was great having lunch with everyone in Salt Lake City.
The University of Utah "Utes" have a beautiful 45,017 seat football stadium. The stadium opened in 1998.
I never buy tickets before I arrive at an away game of any kind. I simply bring my "need 2 tix" sign. Today my sign yielded two 45-yard line seats at a discount of 30% off of the $50 face value. You get to meet some interesting people buying tickets this way as well!
The Olympic flame finished up at this sight following the conclusion of the 2002 Winter Olympics.
This is our view from our seats some 60 rows above the field. This may be one of the most beautiful stadium locations in the country.
We like to wear our "colors", for the UCLA blue and gold when we come to these games. The Utah Utes' fans wore Orangish Red shirts. I have never seen stronger support of a team's fan wear than what we encountered today.
The video scoreboard was one of the best I have ever seen. What are those arrows showing on the board? It is common nowadays for fans to be told how to proceed to the stadium exits in the case of an emergency.
Do you want to know the real reason, I don't buy tickets to events like this in advance? I want to get a good seat. Note the blue shirted fans in the lower rows to the left of the far side seating area. Those are the UCLA fans that bought tickets from the University of Utah. Visiting teams always get the bad seats. I liked our view much better and we bought the tickets at less than face value.
Today was a long afternoon for UCLA football fans.
If you care to see the final score for today's game, I invite you to look closely at the scoreboard. UCLA was a 14-point favorite against the Utah Utes who entered the game with a 0-2 record.
To say the Utah bans were pleased with the outcome of today's contest would be an understatement.
