UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME, SOUTH BEND, INDIANA

There was no time to "eat and get gas."  We were headed to South Bend, Indiana to see our UCLA Bruins play football.

The Fighting Irish fans love to tailgate and put on a party.

All this guy kept saying was "win one for the gipper!"

Being loyal Bruin fans, we couldn't bring ourselves to buy any Notre Dame souvenirs.

These Notre Dame co-eds came to the game on their bicycle built for two.

We stopped inside the Joyce Center.  This is where Notre Dame plays their basketball games.  Today, they were setup (no pun intended) for volleyball.

It was a gorgeous day for football.  We wanted the Irish fans to know we were from UCLA.

That's former ND star Paul Hornung in the golf cart.  The Irish are honoring their seven Heisman award winners at each game this season.  About 20 years ago, Hornung was the guest speaker at one of our national sales meetings.

That's the famous Golden Dome of Notre Dame in the center of the picture.

Just a few minutes before game time, the Notre Dame cheerleaders and marching band came through the center of the campus.

For the next few pictures, you've got to imagine the Notre Dame fight song being played and the crowd going wild.

They must have had 250 band members.  The band was huge.

Even though it was only 58 degrees, these boys looked hot.

UCLA had a very nice turnout of fans today.  Inside the stadium they were loud.

The Goodyear Airship presided over the happenings at today's game.

There was a good deal of security to pass by before we could enter the Notre Dame Stadium.

The stadium was built in 1930.  It was packed today!  Note the famous "football Jesus" in the background.

How could we beat Notre Dame?  They have God on their side.

Of course, the crowd went wild when the Irish players ran onto the field.

You won't see this at very many football games.  Before the game, the Notre Dame players take time to pray.  I guess it paid off for them!

The Bruins came out in their white road uniforms for their first meeting against Notre Dame since 1964.

That's Paul Hornung handling the coin flip at the beginning of the game.

UCLA kicked off and the game was on.

We had a great view of the game from our seats in section 22.

This was a hard fought game.  Neither team led by more than a touchdown.

We saw a few leprocons during the day like this one.

We were seated in the midst of the Notre Dame fan's seating section.  Nevertheless, we cheered our hearts out.

UCLA took an early lead.

However, we couldn't keep Notre Dame from scoring in the final minute of the game.

With just 70 seconds to go in the game, Notre Dame drove 80 yards in three plays and went on to win the game.  Bummer!

Regardless of the outcome, Carol and I had a most fantastic day in South Bend and at the Notre Dame Stadium.  These are experiences of a lifetime.
