Magic Valley Speedway Holds First Memorial Day Hornet 200
Lopez, McKean Trade Paint For Entire Race
5-28-2007
The first running of the Memorial Day Hornet 200 at the Magic Valley Speedway was a memorable one. Two drivers, Louis Lopez and Kris McKean, battled each other for the number one spot for almost the entire race.
Lopez, typically a Grand Nationals driver, and McKean, a top Premiere Series driver, strapped themselves into Hornet series cars for the inaugural race. Lopez led most of the race, but McKean stayed close as the two lapped the majority of the pack five times. The lead changed several times on the last group of laps, but none more exciting than the last two laps as Lopez and McKean battled neck and neck down the back stretch and around turns three and four. Lopez was able to maneuver down low and pull just ahead befor crossing the finish line.
The Speedway was also host to the nation's top trackchaser. Randy Lewis, trackchasing.com's number one trackchaser, was making his first visit to the Speedway. He was finishing up a five-day, seven-track run today. Magic Valley Speedway was his 1,196th track visited and Lewis was impressed with the main event excitement and the beauty of the Magic Valley.
